The island of Filicudi is administered by the municipality of Lipari.
This island has two villages located on a small peninsula stretching to the south: Filicudi Porto and Pecorini a Mare.
This island, barely 10 km² in size, is the most uneven in the archipelago, and geologists believe its formation is the result of six eruptive vents, three of which now form the island"s main peaks: Fossa delle Felci (774 m), the oldest; Montagnola (333 m), probably the most recent; and Torrione (280 m).
Remains of prehistoric Bronze Age settlements have been found in this area. Excavations have also been carried out in the upper part and up to the peak of Montagnola.
The island"s only passable path is a mule track.
